Kathy Tate, Principal
Welcome to Crystal Spring Elementary! I am pleased to serve as your principal.
I have been an educator for thirty-nine years. My career in education began in West Virginia as a speech/language pathologist. In 1989 I moved to Roanoke and began working for Roanoke City Public Schools as speech pathologist with the hearing impaired program at Virginia Heights Elementary and Woodrow Wilson Middle School. In 1991 I left the schools and began my administrative career as a special education coordinator. In 2003 I returned as principal at Round Hill Elementary School.
My B.S. degree in education is from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and my M.S. degree is from Radford University in Educational Leadership. In addition, I have completed post-graduate work at the University of Virginia, West Virginia University and Old Dominion University. In the recent past, I earned my Elementary II Montessori Credential from the North Carolina Center for Teacher Education.
My husband Jim (who attended the Virginia Military Institute) and I live in Roanoke with our yellow Lab, Crosby. We are the parents of seven children and ten grandchildren. I enjoy spending time with our family, gardening, and house decorating.
